Clubs/Programs

UIL Academics is a series of academic competitions in Texas designed to promote higher-order thinking, skill refinement, and college and career readiness.  

These activities, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance, and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills.

Students practice frequently to prepare for the District, Regional and State competitions.  Success in UIL competitions can lead to opportunities for college scholarships and for career internships.  

The mission of AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is to ensure that all students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle will: succeed in rigorous curriculum, complete a rigorous college preparatory path, enter mainstream activities of the school, and become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.

AVID elective teachers support these students in socializing intelligence as they focus on academic rigor using WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) study skills, learning goal setting, organization, and time-management.  Students succeed in Pre-AP and AP courses and apply for and enroll in 4-year colleges.

AVID student selection focuses on students in the middle with the desire and determination to prepare for success in a 4-year college or university. Students are to meet one or more of the following criteria: first in family to attend college, historically underserved in 4-year colleges, low income or special circumstances. AVID program participants, both students and staff, choose to participate.

The United Voices for Change (UV4C) will again unite their collective voices asking for change on each high school campus in Fort Worth ISD. There are many reasons for joining student forces, the most important reason is to build a unified body of students who encourage  their peers to participate and serve throughout the school year. Other reasons for unification are:

• To diversify the participation of student voice
• To diversify those who serve as student leaders.
• To provide a unique opportunity for student collaboration in addressing campus and community issues.
• To provide a broader platform to learn and practice student leadership modeling diverse opinion with respect.
• To provide a safe, engaging, and empowering climate to build capacity for ALL students.
